As you look out the window of your Fredericksburg bed and breakfast, you’re bound to be awe-struck by the rolling, rugged limestone knolls and glistening rivers that make up the back drop for your getaway. Travelers come to the Hill Country to take in this uniquely Texan environment. If you decide to take a day trip to experience some of the Texas Hill Country’s bucolic terrain, you have no shortage of options at your footstep. Whether you are with your significant other or the entire family, here are several places you might want to check out:

Enchanted Rock: The Park gets its name because of the pink granite dome that feels out of this world. The outdoorsman will find him or herself right at home with its miles of trails, stunning rock formations and clear skies that are perfect for star-gazing. The park is located about fifteen miles away from Fredericksburg, and it’s advisable to get there early. The park can reach capacity during the peak months.

Fredericksburg Nature Center:  Nature observers might see something they’ve never seen before when they come to the Nature Center in idyllic Lady Bird Johnson Park. There are eleven different habitats in the Nature Center’s ten acres, which is attributed to the Nature Center’s location. Visitors can observe the area’s birds, amphibians, reptiles, and plants on its 6,600 ft. of trails. The Fredericksburg Nature Center serves as the perfect place for observation and reflection on the diverse species and vegetation that can only be found in the Hill Country.

Pedernales State Park: If you’re with the family, you might want to check out Pedernales State Park. The park is known for being a top family destination for its easy, family-friendly hikes and swimming at Arrowhead Pool. However, the star of the show is the scenic overlook of Pedernales Falls at the north end of the Park. Other family activities in the area include camping, tubing, fishing, mountain biking and picnicking. The park is also an Equestrian Park with a beautiful ten mile trail that is ideal for the experienced rider. Pedernales State Park is about an hour away from Fredericksburg.

During your time in Fredericksburg, we encourage you to check these and other sites that make the Hill Country unlike any other place you’ll find in Texas and beyond.
