Texas Hill Country Holiday Shopping: Fredericksburg Shops and Wineries

This “Shopping Heaven” in the heart of the Texas Hill Country has specialty stores with all kinds of gift items. You can choose include artisan creations in metal, glass, or pottery, artwork, handmade jewelry, western wear, vintage clothing, antiques, and all kinds of home décor. Here are some of the shops you’ll find clustered on Main Street near the Marktplatz, just a few blocks from the Wine Country Cottages and Wine Country Farmhouse. For holiday shopping, why not get in the spirit of the holidays at the Fredericksburg Christmas Store (155 East Main Street)? The ‘elves’ here will be happy to help you choose gifts, holiday decorations, and Christmas tree ornaments. Choose from a worldwide selection of Christmas décor, including one of the country’s largest selections of European blown glass and exclusive custom designed ornaments. The store stocks the full line of Christopher Radko ornaments and Snowbabies, as well as Kurt Adler nutcrackers, Fontanini nativities, Possible Dreams Santas, Jim Shore figurines, and Mark Roberts fairies. It is the largest Department 56 Village dealer in the United States.

Even though its name is the Fredericksburg Christmas Store, they also feature other holidays, especially Halloween (including Department 56 Halloween Villages). Rustlin’ Rob’s Texas Gourmet Foods (121 East Main Street), is a great store if you are looking for some of the best tastes of Texas. You’re invited to sample a great variety of jams, salsa, hot sauce, olives, chutney, and more to help you choose treats for yourself and for those on your gift list. Some guests report you can sample an entire lunch there, and will want to take all those items home with you!

Der Kuchen Laden (258 Main Street), “the best little kitchen store in Texas,” offers an extravaganza of kitchen and home-related items perfect for gifts and your own home as well. You’ll find almost any kitchen item ever invented. Since this family-owned store was once the historic Keidel Hospital Building, you can combine Texas history and shopping in one location!

Dooley’s 5-10 & 25 cent Store (131 East Main Street) is a nostalgic trip back in time to the mid-20th century. Step back to the 1950’s and shop for reproductions of items no longer produced, as well as Fredersburg souvenirs and gifts.

Anyone with a sweet tooth shouldn’t miss these stores in Fredericksburg – you can return to your childhood and just be a kid in a candy store. Stop by Lone Star Candy Bar and Fredericksburg Fudge! for a variety of sweet holiday treats. Fredericksburg Fudge! (218 East Main Street) features its namesake candy in many flavors plus assorted chocolates including peanut brittles, pralines, chocolate rocks, snappers, and antlers. All the candies are made from scratch with no preservatives. At Lone Star Candy Bar (254 East Main Street), you can choose freshly roasted nuts, chocolate-dipped goodies from bacon and jalapenos to strawberries or dill pickles, and sample one of their 36 flavors of homemade fudge (including some that are sucrose-free).
